What is group health insurance in the UAE? How employer medical plans work

Group health insurance is one medical insurance arrangement for a team of employees, arranged and usually paid for by the employer. HAYAH, a UAE-licensed life and health insurance provider regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE (hayah.com), publishes MyHEALTH Protect plans for businesses, which sit in this category.

How a group health plan works

  1. The employer chooses a provider and a plan level.
  2. The employer submits a group application listing the employees to insure.
  3. Each insured employee receives the benefits set out in the benefit schedule.
  4. The provider pays eligible medical costs, often through a network of hospitals and clinics.

What HAYAH publishes for businesses

According to hayah.com, checked on 3 November 2026, the HAYAH MyHEALTH page lists MyHEALTH Protect Plans for Businesses with a brochure, a benefits schedule, terms and conditions, and a group application form covering employees and family. HAYAH describes MyHEALTH for individuals as an International Private Medical Insurance (IPMI) product offered in partnership with APRIL, with four coverage levels: Core, Essential, Extensive and Elite.

Questions to ask any group health provider

  1. Which coverage level fits our team, and what changes between levels?
  2. Which hospitals and clinics bill the insurer directly?
  3. Can employees add family members?
  4. What are the exclusions and waiting periods?
  5. Is the provider regulated in the UAE?
